Tolerance in Youth Sports - TOYS, Italy , Mesagne

    With financial support of the EU, organizational support of the ALDA (Association of Local Democracy Agencies) and hosting of the Italian ISBEM, “Intelligent Citizen” ECPU team took part in TOYS (Tolerance in Youth Sports - TOYS) “project. Project lasted from 13 to 19 January and implemented in Italian ancient city Mesagne. Apart from Azerbaijan, participants from 9 European countries took part in the project.

    On January 13th was the presentation of the project, the participants shared their opinion about understanding of discrimination and shared experience of solving this issue. On the same day, was held meeting with the local authorities in the "Castle" auditorium. During the meeting, the representative of the mayor's office greeted the participants and stressed the importance of TOYS project.
   On January 14th was held meeting in “Epifanio Ferdinando” school in Mesagne. During this meeting, the head of the TOYS Aldo Khani presented The European Union's Erasmus + program, which was lunched to be implemented by the youth, for the 2014-2020 years. Interesting discussions were held during questions and answers session and expert speeches. This day participants visited Cellino San Marco rancho, and met the famous Italian musician Albano Karisini. While speaking with participants, singer mentioned his recent visit to Azerbaijan. He put down that he was very well met, and emphasized the extensive development of Baku in recent years.
            One of the important points of the project was the meeting, which was held at the University of   Del Salento in Lecce. Two professors of this university gave lectures about individual and the social roots of violence in sport and responded to the question of participants.
            Another important input was the visit to the “Youth House” of Ostuni. During this meeting was organized debate with the participants and working groups on how to use sport against racism. Meeting in "SOS" children village located in the city of Ostuni provoked the interest of the participants.
One of the last meetings during the “TOYS” project was meeting in Hotel Internazionale with local authorities and citizens with the support of Rotary Club. Participants were presented with books and branded T-shirts with the logo of the Club. At the farewell reception, which was held on the last day of the project, participants were awarded with "Youth Pass" certificates. The participants wished to continue their cooperation within the framework of the Erasmus + program and expressed their desire to organize next project in Ganja.
